2nd April,2024 With 333 Lakh Hectares under cotton cultivation, India ranks first. However, when it comes to productivity, our country ranks 38th in productivity. The problem lies in weeds infestation which as per studies cut down cotton yields by 40 percent to 85 percent.
“During the initial stages, the cotton growth is very slow. With the row spacing also being wider during this time, it enables growth of different categories of weeds which in turn compete with the emerging crop for water, nutrients and light,” said Rajavelu NK, CEO, Crop Protection Business at Godrej Agrovet Limited.
To address this issue, company launched Maxxcott last year. A Pre-emergent herbicide, Maxxcott controls most of the major weeds of cotton from day one, giving crop weed free growth period of 25-30 days. This not only translates into superior weed control and low cost of weed management as compared to conventional methods.
