HDFC Bank opens its first branch in Keylong Himachal Pradesh

• The first private bank to open a branch in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, April 21, 2022: HDFC Bank today announced that it has opened its first branch in Keylong, becoming the first private sector bank to open a branch in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.

The branch was inaugurated by Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul and Spiti District, Government of Himachal Pradesh, in the presence of Dr. Rohit Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Lahaul and Spiti District, Government of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Manoj Kumar, Project Officer – DRDA, and Mr. Sudershan Jaspa, President, Lahaul Agriculture Potato Society.

Members of HDFC Bank’s senior management team including the Bank’s MD and CEO Mr. Sashidhar Jagdishan; Executive Vice President (IT) Mr. V. Sundar; Regional HR Head Mr. Malay Chaturvedi; Branch Banking Head (North 2) Mr. Vineet Arora; Regional Rural Head (North 2) Mr. Lalit Batra; Circle Head (Himachal Pradesh) Mr. Neeraj Kaura; and Cluster Head Mr. Sumit Anand were also present on the occasion.

Keylong town is an administrative centre in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is located approximately 71 kilometres north of Manali and around 120 kilometres from the Indo-Tibetan border. Keylong is a popular tourist destination and is often used as a stopover by tourists during their visit to Manali.

Commenting on the bank’s first branch in the Lahaul and Spiti district, Mr. Vineet Arora, Branch Banking Head (North 2), HDFC Bank, said: “We are committed to expand our presence in Himachal Pradesh and make quality banking products and services available across the state. Our new branch at Keylong is a testimony of our commitment. We will continue to expand our branch network, especially in the unbanked and under banked regions of the state.”

HDFC Bank’s journey in Himachal Pradesh began way back in 2004 when it opened its first branch in the state at Sanjauli in Shimla. Since then, the bank has been growing its presence across Himachal Pradesh through a combination of bank branches and digital banking initiatives. At present, the bank has 82 branches in 76 cities/towns spread across 11 districts of Himachal Pradesh.
